Title: It’s Okay to Laugh: (Crying is Cool Too)
Author: Nora McInerny Purmort
It’s Okay to Laugh introduces us to Nora following the death of her husband, Aaron, to a brain tumor. In order to understand how she came to this point in her life and how she’s coming to terms with grief, Nora delivers stories of ex-boyfriends, jobs, friendships and life, in particular her life with Aaron, in one of the most honest and real memoirs about life and death.
This memoir will make you laugh hysterically, sob uncontrollably and nod your head in agreement as you realize everything she says is true, people are just too scared to admit it. I’m not sure if in writing this book she hoped to encourage people to feel stronger and like they’re not alone in the world, but in a weird way, it did that for me and creating that relationship through words is a gift. Although I can’t relate to loosing a loved one so tragically, I can relate to going through crap in life and that connection Nora brings to her writing is unparalleled.
