Book Review: Stars of Fortune

IMG_8298Title: Stars of Fortune (Book 1 of the Guardians Trilogy)
Author: Nora Roberts
Genre: Romance
Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Format: Unabridged Audio Book

The first story in The Guardians Trilogy features Sasha Riggs, a shy artist from North Caroline, with the gift of sight. After months of dreaming, visions and painting she is led to the Greek Island of Corfu where destiny aligns her with 5 other extraordinary people in search of the legendary fire star. As Sasha struggles to accept her place as the seer in the group, Bran Killian, the magician, becomes her sounding board and together they face the darkness that threatens to take the fire stone.

As a fan of any Nora Roberts trilogy or quartet, I was excited to see this new release feature the basics of paranormal or myths, that Nora does so well. The storyline and scenery descriptions were fantastic and made it easy to imagine being there with the characters. However, I felt it took a bit to truly develop the characters in the story. Her trilogies always feature a trio of couples, with one book dedicated to each couple. While this book focused on Sasha and Bran, the other 4 characters are so unique and detailed with their special gifts, that she couldn’t finish this story without some description, which felt like a departure from her other trilogies. Now that the basics are set for all the characters, it will be interesting to see how the other 2 books develop.
